Governmental Affairs Committee

June 5 is an important Democratic primary election day. Our local mayoralty and three council seats are up for grabs. Since the Galaxy is nestled in a Democratic neighborhood, the candidates who win the Democratic ticket in the primary will most likely be chosen in the November general election to fill the vacant seats. Thus the primary is of great importance, for it determines the final outcome locally in November.

These local candidates are important to our needs in the Galaxy, as are our United States Representative, State Senator and Assemblymen. All these candidates’ seats are on the June ballot. Nobody listens if your voice isn’t heard. It’s a very loud voice when a huge group like ours speaks in unison.

Only a strong Galaxy bloc vote will make an impression on members of the governing bodies and support the candidates.

Many of our Galaxy registered voters do not declare the party of their choice. If more of us did, as a group we could turn out a strong party vote in the Democratic primary and make a stronger impression. If you are not declared at this time, call me.

You can declare at the polls. But if you will be out of town in June and wish to obtain an

absentee ballot application, ask your concierge or call me (at 868-5012)

and I’ll get you one. Absentee applications must be in Jersey City at

least seven days before June 5.
