Social and Cultural Committee

We kicked off the holiday season celebrating the annual Holiday Dessert Theme Party in the Spa Lounge on Saturday, December 16th. The special drink was irish coffee. Many thanks go out to Mirna Benitez, Pam Sanabria, Joan Murphy, and Nimmi Handa who made the delicious desserts for us. Do All DJ Wayne was on hand to supply us with fun music and dancing. A lot of fun was had by all. Thanks go out to Danielle, our new Spa Manager Lee Turner, and the rest of the Spa staff for all their help. Thank you to Hank Dunleavy for being at our events to tape for Channel 26.

On Sunday, December 17th we had the annual Hanukkah Ceremony with our Cantor and resident Steve Sher who was back by popular demand to tell us the history of Hanukkah and lead us in holiday song. He was joined by our Galaxy Singers who are always terrific in helping us celebrate this Festival of Lights. This year we had the help of the temple to make us the latkes. Dreidels and gelt were given out.

On Tuesday, December 19th we had a Physical Fitness and Stress Seminar with Robert Goldstein in the Spa Lounge. We participated in a survey to determine the level of stress in our lives. Some of the topics discussed were how regular exercise combats stress, exercise and the brain, making time to exercise, and understanding physical fitness.

On Monday, January 1st the Annual Hangover Brunch in the Spa lounge was held. We repeated a popular tradition at the Galaxy with our friends and neighbors joining in celebrating the New Year 2001. A scrumptious buffet was served including bagels, cream cheeses, tuna salad, egg salad, shrimp salad, quiches, mimosas, bloody marys, champagne, juice, coffee, tea, and dessert. Thank you to Kathy Moberly for playing

the piano and singing. Thank you to Spa Staff for all their help. We want to wish everyone a happy and healthy New Year. Many thanks to the volunteers who help throughout the year to plan, organize, and participate to make living at the Galaxy so special!!

This will be my last issue due to my anticipation of moving from the Galaxy. I have enjoyed these past 4 years as the chairperson of the Social and Cultural Committee. I have had a great committee with terrific members and want to thank everyone on the committee as well as the Board Of Directors, Executive Council, Galaxy Staff, and all my friends and neighbors who helped and supported me in the process of planning, organizing, and participating with the events at the Galaxy. In keeping up with our Galaxy lifestyle we have had so many fun and exciting successful events. I am going to miss everyone and will stay in touch.

I hope you will continue to keep checking for flyers for future events by the cubbies, bulletin boards, Channel 26, and on the Internet at http://www.Galaxy-Condo.com. While I am still here at the Galaxy, I will assist in the events and want to wish the next Chairperson of the Social and Cultural Committee good luck and hope they will continue proving terrific seminars and events for the Galaxy residents.

If you would like to suggest new ideas or get involved with the committee, please contact me at 861-2823 or at 406P.

Thank you for the quick visit.
